Wednesday 4th April 2012 – Shopping and sitting in Mc Donalds for Wi-Fi – cloudy rain & snow :(

Lovely cosy night in van but woke to grey skies and rain :( After breakfast do a little food shopping, then to Mc Donalds inside this time and for the price of a couple of coffee’s we had free Wi-Fi while charging our laptop and two e-readers :) After the usual facebook, emails, go to the bank; check the weather – hopefully brightening up tomorrow – and upload a couple of books from the library we head up the valley to Risoul 1850 for lunch and it’s snowing now – wet slushy snow:( So we sit in the van with the diesel heater on watching the gold crests and tree creepers in the larches and reading – too wet to walk :( I actually agreed to play scrabble for Mag and for once she didn’t humiliate me!!! I won – that’s a first :) Fingers crossed for better weather and perhaps we can get the skies out again???

Thursday 5th April 2012 – Skiing – Risoul ***** mainly sunny :)

The rain clouds have gone and been replaced with the beautiful blue with some white bits! We decided to go skiing so got our stuff together, packed a picnic – yesterday’s bread and cheese and were at the cash office just after 9. The lift passes were tres expensive! 77 euros for both us with insurance! The most expensive ever:( but we soon discovered that it is a huge area which goes from Risoul over to Vars. We certainly did our 77 euros justice and it was great because while it was raining with us yesterday it must have been snowing up there because there was nearly a foot of powder in places! We went up the first lift we came to as we were knackered before we started because the van was parked quite a way from the lifts!! It was the Melezet although very slow we could take in the fantastic view with all the trees dusted in fresh snow – very beautiful :) and it took us to some lovely powder, Mag stuck to the piste to break her injured leg in and I had a ball making lots of S’s in the snow:) It was so good I did it again and this time Mag joined me. We loved the off piste and a lot of our best fun was on the pistes that were officially closed but because of the snow were beautiful. We skied down just such a run to a beautiful place for lunch right by a babbling brook – near a closed lift along a blue path that was closed but was 3 inches deep in snow :) This had the unfortunate result of us having to walk out of the bottom of the village back to the Vars lifts! It wasn’t too bad really. We had another run down into Vars then made the long journey back to Risoul. We were completely pooped and unfortunately the last red Mag did was naf :( I as usual went up for one more run but regretted it because my feet were hurting as much as Mags! Mag got back to the van about 4 and I about twenty past. We ate a considerable amount of cake and two cuppas each to revive! Had a tin of something involving meat balls and cous cous for tea – very nice :) Great day :) This is a great area very beautiful with lots of trees and some big mountains all around, well worth another visit!!! Look forward to a lay in tomorrow to rest my weary limbs :)
